Here is an article posted on the DOW website. These guys are gettin off pretty easy if you ask me!...The fines should have been much higher! And either jail or community service. I hope they lose their hunting prevlidges, as they knew better than to hunt like this. Dow could have confiscated everything! All the guns, the vehicles used. These guys are merely being slapped on the hands is all. wildlife.state.co.us/NewsMedia/PressReleases/Press.asp?PressId=4267

I agree Cindy! Sounds like to me they got off pretty easy. Anyone that hunts should know not to behave like those two and to do so without regard is blatant carelessness in my opinion. It shouldn't even be a question as to if they lose their license privileges or not. That should have been the first thing that happened! The $616 fine for the second guy seems pretty small in comparison to the damage they did. Like you said, they could have and should have lost a lot more!

The smaller fine is very low, not sure why it was this low. Maybe there was circumstances, I haven't heard the full story yet. I heard about this a few months ago but knowing how rumors spread I decided to wait till it was made public knowledge. Even the higher fine seems to be low, maybe becuase its first offense I am not sure, but I dont think there should be a difference between first or more offenses. The point being is they left dead or wounded elk behind and that is what irritates me. They should have dressed the dead and tracked the wounded till they either ran out of tracking signs or they found the animal. Then they should have reported the the incident. They knew what they should have done and did the opposite, is not that deliberate intentions of animal destruction?

The deliberate destruction of animals along with wasting all the meat and making no attempts at tracking the wounded is definitley grounds for some serious actions. First or third offense it should be their last, PERIOD!!!! What ever came of those California hunters that slaughtered a bunch of elk? I never heard a follow up on it after the initial article you sent me.

I am not sure what ever came of them. They may not have had their day in court. Or they hired some high dollar lawyer and got off scott free, I keep checkin the DOW site often for new press releases and I havent seen nothing more on them. Amber was asking me today as well about that. I would guess that they havent had their day in court. Only reason this was article was released on the MacGraws is they plea bargained, so maybe the others are fighting the charges.
