Wow, seems alittle quite in here.....Well, me and my girlfriend went on our first hunt together! I didn't tell her where we were going. Just told her to be ready for an adventure! I loaded up the Jeep with my 22 Marlin mag and a cooler of spirits and head for 39 Mile Mountain. This is just south of Eleven Mile Res. It's a 4X4 road into the public land with about five gates that we have to pass through. I decided that we would sit on top of this ridge that over looked two valleys and you can see Eleven Mile Res and the snow capped mountain of Pikes Peak off in the distance. As I found a spot to park, a coyote trotted pass the front of my Jeep. I reach in the Jeep and pulled out the 22 mag and loaded a clip, but it was too late! We spent the next three hours sitting on that ridge calling and never saw another coyote. But it was time well spent together watching the sun go down on the mountains. It never gets old! We then head off to a near by tavern for pizza, beer and some quality conversation. I think she had fun out there and I look forward to the next coyote hunt!!!

Hey Ed,
Not that I want to impose on time well spent with you and Tracy but if you would not mind the company I would like to come along on a Coyote hunt somtime. Not sure how i just now saw this post but never the less, I would like to do that this year. I need to take the hunter safety course or whatever it is they make you take before you can get a hunting license in this state. Indiana will give a license to anyone with a gun which is kind of scary!!
Talk to you later,

Well, today I add to my gun collection! I bought a new 700 ADL in .243. Also bought a new Cass Creek preditor call, www.casscreek.com. I'm I almost ready to get into this type of hunting. The guy I bought the call from said I soundn't hunt alone with these electronic game calls. He claims the coyote will come in hard and fast. He also suggested that I get a bird call (crow/hawk) to follow up after the preditor call. It will be a few weeks before I can get out and use this new equipment. But as soon as I do, I'll let you all know what happened! Ed

I agree with the guy! Those coyotes are unpredictable, we have had some come in on the fight. And some come in slow and cautious. Best to always hunt with a buddy. Besides more fun huntin with someone. Keep us posted when you go! And be ready for an adrenaline rush if they come in!

I have a 25' cord with this game call so I might put myself up in a tree. I prefer to be up high anyways so I can see more. Ed

The coyote or any predator for that matter will locate or better said pinpoint where the noise is coming from, they will come to the call and not you if you have it set up and away from you. We have often set it up 10-15 feet from us and we have sat hidden on the ground, either in sagebrush, a rock jumble, or in some trees. You know its not impossible to call a bobcat or lion in...we have never, but have friends that have. Just be safe Ed. The coyotes will soon be startin to rub, meaning loosing their winter coats, so their hides wont be worth much. But still fun to call them in.
