Hey Paul
I am not sure of price range on muzzle loaders lately but we have tried the Thompson Center and Knights and finally fell in love with the Remington 700 inline muzzle loader, 54 caliber, its accuracy is unmatched by any other we have tried. We can make longer shots with surprising accuracy as well. Last year we put the 209 primer conversion on them and not once have we had a dry fire since then.

Thanks Cindy but I am afraid that the Rem will be above my price range.

Good morning!
One of the guys we hunt with sometimes bought a new CVA for his son, he is picky like us when it comes to performance, but considered the price difference($149 through Cabelas)) and thought it would be a good starter for his son. Its called the "HunterBolt 209 Magnum." It is an inline, with bolt action, 209 primer ignition, and a 26" barrel, only comes in 45 or 50 caliber. So far he is impressed with its performance. We have never had a CVA so I cant say good or bad, but knew years ago it was not a good quality gun, but as with many things, their quality may have improved to keep up with other brands and the demand. When we did our checking around for muzzle loaders we found Cabelas to be just a little cheaper on prices than other places we looked, but the catalogue does not have 54 calibers, but when we called them they had 54's in stock in the stores in the Remington 700 so they might have the 54's in other brands as well.

I have a Cabelas just 70 miles south of me in Kearney. I go there every so often to visit my brother who lives in Kearney. I usually get a gift card to Cabelas from some of my wifes family for Christmas so thats where I was thinking of looking at getting a ML anyway. I kinda like the looks of the ones that break open like a single shot shotgun. They seem like they would be easy to load and clean.

I ended up getting a New Frontier Beartooth Magnum. Its a break open type. Very easy to take apart and clean. I put a red dot scope on it. I have shot it about 15 times but havent figgured out exact loads to shoot and need to still tweek the scope some more.
I have been trying out loads with 80grains of 777 and 295grain hollow pt. Power Belts and Rem STS 209 primers
almost forgot to mention the gun cost me 149.00 with scope on it. I had a 50$ bonus from work and a 30$ coupon from Cabelas to put twards that.

What caliber is the muzzle loader? And what you going to be hunting with it?
